Education Research Program

This program is constructed for people who want to study scientific subjects of their own interest, people who want to have higher professional knowledge, people who want to be leading professions or educators in their fields, and those who want to be researches in the near future. We support our students so that they can not only get higher professional knowledge but also master theories and skills to conduct research and better presentation. Finally, our students should be able to write a master's thesis under the close supervision of a supervisor.

Advanced Specialized Professional Program

Clinical Nurse Specialist (Cancer Nursing) Course

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a qualification awarded to nurses who have passed the Clinical Nurse Specialist qualification review of the Japanese Nursing Association. To obtain this qualification it is necessary to complete a nursing graduate school master's program that is certified by the Japan Association of Nursing Programs in Universities, which this Niigata University of Health and Welfare's cancer nursing curriculum is.

Clinical Manual Therapy Course

The content of Clinical Manual Therapy Course includes clinical practice and is more practical than the Education Researcher Program, which concentrates on research.. The goal of this course is to acquire advanced knowledge and skills useful in clinical practice, which has been a long-standing need from front-line physiotherapists.

Clinical Nutrition Specialist Course

Emphasis has recently been placed on the importance of nutrition support team (NST) in nutritional care and management of patients. The dieticians in NST require comprehensive knowledge about clinical nutrition and advanced skills in nutritional treatment. The goal of our program is to provide professionally trained registered dieticians who may be employed by hospitals or nursing care facilities with these knowledge and skills.

Certified Social Worker Course

The purpose of certified social workers is to provide counseling and assistance. By drawing on their highly specialized knowledge and skills, they are able to provide personalized support, coordinate with experts in other fields, and enhance community welfare in dealing with welfare issues in many areas. Our graduate students can earn credits (common core courses and specialized courses in welfare for the elderly) to become certified social workers by taking certain courses in the graduate program in social work.

The Master's course cooperated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers of JICA (JOCV)

Purpose of the program

The graduate students of the program can work in their assigned countries as members of JOCV while being registered in the master's course. They can receive instructions by teachers of NUHW while staying in their assigned countries. The purpose of the course is to enhance qualities and skills needed for international health cooperation through real activities of international collaboration.

Characteristic of the program
  • Graduate students can receive instructions from the graduate course teachers while staying in assigned countries, and obtain the master's degree by summarizing their activities and experiences there.
  • They can improve skills for effective international health cooperation before/after starting their new posts as members of JOCV by means of practical exercise focused on health problems in developing countries.
  • They can refer to the experiences of others by means of making a network with relevant persons related to the graduate course and JOCV when they consider their current works and future paths.
  • This is the first graduate school program in Japan that provides a course created in the collaboration of a graduate school and JICA.
